John James Gowans, 74, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri passed away peacefully Saturday, September 21, 2019, after a short battle with Leukemia. John was preceded in death by his parents John and Ruth Gowans, and sister Susie Gowans. He is survived by his wife Sharon; two sons Jamie (Deeana), and JP Gowans, granddaughter Libbi Gowans, siblings Sally (Bill) Rice, Terri (Ronnie) Emerson, Chuck (Anna Sajovic) Gowans, and three nieces, a nephew and many cousins. John was a graduate of Southeast High School in Kansas City, Missouri, and proudly served his country in the Army in the Vietnam War. His career included many positions in the field of Information Technology and also at his church. When John was in his mid-forties, he received the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior and strongly believed that the King James 1611 authorized version is the infallible word of God; John loved it, studied it, and tried to live by it. John believed the local church was set up by God and he was faithful to it and served wherever he could. John died knowing that he would be with the Lord. Family and friends are invited to Old Paths Baptist Church, 4621 S. Shrank Drive – Independence, MO, 64055 on Sunday September 29, 2019 for visitation from 9:30-10:30am, followed by a memorial service from 10:45am-12:15pm.
