John Ellis

John E. Ellis, 70, passed away March 26th 2012 peacefully at his home in Gladstone, M0.

John was born January 14th, 1942 in Topeka, KS to Ernest Franklin and Edith Verna Ellis (McCreight) who

preceded him in death. He attended Emporia State College and married Nancy Meister of Topeka in

1961. Married for 20 years, they had three children, Michael John, Steven Frank and Sara Kathryn.

John was a successful insurance agent for 48 years starting with Penn Mutual in Topeka and

ending his career with New York Life in Kansas City. In 1967, John moved to Des Moines, Iowa and

became a General Agent at the age of 25. During his career he brought many agents into the insurance

business who became successful from his mentoring and leadership.

In 1982 John married Judy Umscheid who had two daughters, Sheri Bowers (Umscheid) and

Shannon Souder (Umscheid). John and Judy recently celebrated 30 years of marriage.

John was an active member of South Platte Rotary where he served as an officer, President and

an ardent worker for the Philippine Medical Missions, going on three of their mission trips. He was also

an active member of Englewood Baptist Church for 30 years, serving in many leadership roles on

committees, mission trips and singing in the church choir. Family was extremely important to John in his

roles as a wonderful husband, devoted father and active grandfather.

John is survived by his wife, Judy, five children, 21 grandchildren, one brother Bruce Newman

and two sisters, Florence Deeter and Evelyn Best.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am Tuesday, April 3rd at Englewood Baptist Church, 1900 N.E.

Englewood, Gladstone, MO. Visitation will be Monday from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Church.
