John Earl Easley, our dear father, passed away on June 22, 2019 at home in Overland Park, KS at 5:55 p.m. to be with our Lord. He was born on May 8, 1942, in Pitcher, Oklahoma to Barbara Robitaille Easley. Preceding him in death are twin half-sisters, Connie Girard and Bonnie Easley. He is survived by our mother and devoted wife of 56 years, Sharon J. (Latham) Easley, Overland Park, KS; children, William and Kristin Easley of Overland Park, KS, Kimberly and Vern Mulkey of Lee’s Summit, MO, Christine and Steve Caudle of Olathe, KS, Bradley and Dawn Easley of Basehor, KS; 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
After graduating from Westport High School in 1962, he married his high school sweetheart. He served in the U.S. Navy in Kodiak, Alaska and San Diego, CA, and was honorably discharged in 1966. John’s career spanned over 50 years. He served in managerial and supervisory roles working for Lady Baltimore Foods, Inc. and Associated Wholesale Grocers, Kansas City, KS. For two decades he owned and operated Double E Refrigerated Truck Line, Inc. and United Presort, Inc., Kansas City, KS.
In his free time, mom and dad renovated two historic homes in Central Hyde Park, in which one is where they lived for 33 years.
Dad was a member of the Wyandotte Nation of Oklahoma Indian Tribe. His children and grandchildren are members through his lineage. His favorite past times were fishing and spending time with his family. Dad enjoyed watching western movies for the 100th time, family picnics, Saturday nights playing UNO with the Latham clan and the occasional visit to the boats with mom. His work ethic was stellar and we marveled at how hard he worked.
Dad had a soft heart and a gentle soul. He particularly cherished special occasions and visits from his family where we would gather and share stories from our times together.
Dad set a wonderful example for his children. One of his greatest gifts to us was his love for our mother.
Dad faced many adversities the last 10 years but his spirit endured to the end.
He was proud of his family and the legacy he left behind. He will always be loved and be deeply missed.
A visitation will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Friday, June 28 at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Rd., KCMO. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Sat, June 29 at Newcomer’s Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, KCMO, with interment following in Floral Hills Cemetery and a reception in John’s honor after services.
