John J. Becerra, 83, of Overland Park, Kansas, died Friday, October 11, 2013, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. A Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, October 16th, 11:00 a.m., in Calvary Cemetery, Kansas City, MO. Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 15th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at McGilley State Line Chapel. In lieu of Flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
John was born June 24, 1930 in Kansas City, Missouri. He served as a Paratrooper in the Army in 1948. He was a hairdresser, building contractor, foreman for Lyons Optical and 20 years with the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Local #83. John Retired at the age of 62.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Alfredo and Catalina Melgoza de Becerra; three brothers, Alfredo, Roman and Joseph Becerra; and his sister, Mary Louise Lopez. He is survived by his daughters; Catalina (Kathy) Hair, and Rita Slavens, and one grandson, Christopher Hair. He is also survived by siblings; Alfred Becerra, Albert (Sherlene) Becerra, Catherine (Charlie) Lopez, Hector (Helen) Becerra, Arcelia (Leon) Glass and Alicia Meurlott.
