Joann Whaley

Joann M. Whaley (Schmidt), of Prairie Village, Kansas, 79, passed away March 19, 2011. A visitation will be held Tuesday, March 22, at 1 PM followed by a Mass of the Christian Burial at 2 PM at Cure’ of Ars, 9401 Mission Road, Leawood, Kansas 66209.

Interment will be held Wednesday in Omaha, Nebraska at Calvary Cemetery at 1:00 PM.

Joann was a homemaker, friend to all, enjoyed watching all sports, and going to the theatre. After raising her children she spent 17 years working in the Registrars’ office of three 3 universities.

Joann is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Evelyn Schmidt; and her brother, David Schmidt. Joann is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years, John; loving children Kathy (Jim) Barsness, Iowa Falls, Iowa, Sue (John) Scott, Bay Village, OH, Martha (Jeff) Hemer Overland Park, Kansas, Molly Whaley, Iowa City, Iowa, Matt (Maribeth) Whaley, O’Fallon, Missouri and Mike (Meg) Whaley of Omaha, Nebraska. She was the grandmother of 14 and the great grandmother of 2.

Joann’s family would like to thank the staff at Bickford and Kansas City Hospice for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joann’s memory may be made to Kansas City Hospice House.
