EDGAR L. WALDEN III, 67, and JOANN FULCHER WALDEN, 58, of Leawood, KS died Thursday, October 14, 2010 in St. Charles Parish, Louisiana. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 25 at Curé of Ars Church in Leawood, KS. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. (Rosary at 7:45) on Sunday, October 24 at McGilley State Line Chapel , Kansas City, MO.
Ed was born August 28, 1943 in Indianapolis, IN to Edgar Walden II and Mary Margaret Walden (Née Lazzell). Joann was born November 17, 1951 in Storm Lake, IA to George T. and Eileen C. Fulcher (Née Landgraf). Ed and Joann were married June 16, 1984 and are survived by two sons: Jason (Wendy) Walden, and Brian (fiancée Elizabeth Burton ) Walden and two granddaughters, Allana Perez and Madeline Courkamp.
Along with his two sons, Ed is survived by four siblings, Barb (Ken) Reiper, John Patrick (Sharon) Walden, Mike (Denise) Walden and Debbie (Kerry) Bouwens and stepmother, Barbara Walden. Along with their son, Brian, Joann is survived by four siblings; Sheryl (Jerry) McGowan, Thomas (Caye) Fulcher, William (Barb) Fulcher, Rhonda (Tom) Coon and brother-in-law Lin (Ruth) Smith. Both are survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Steve Walden. Joann was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Donna Fulcher Smith.
Ed is a retired realtor, having worked in both commercial and residential real estate, most recently for Sprint. He was an avid gardener with a love for roses, which he used to court his wife throughout their 26 years of marriage. He also was an Indy 500 race fan. Joann has a BS from Iowa State University and spent the majority of her career in computer and software sales, having recently retired as a sales executive for Softchoice. She loved to entertain her family and friends and every person who ever met her felt instantly at home in the warmth of her smile.
Arrangements are with McGilley State Line Chapel. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Curé of Ars Music Department, Rockhurst High School Music Department, Sisters of St. Francis Retirement Fund of Clinton, Iowa and the Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Kansas City, KS.
Both loved to travel extensively and were looking forward to their retirement years. To celebrate Joann’s September 30th retirement, they had recently embarked on a month-long vacation in the Southeast United States. They lived together and they died together.
