JoAnn was born on November 30, 1944 in Bancroft, Iowa. She graduated from St. John’s High School in 1963 and worked as an administrative assistant, including at The Office of the Attorney General of Iowa. She married Richard Schiltz, also from Bancroft, in 1965. Throughout their marriage, they lived in various locations around the United States. JoAnn loved traveling around the world and enjoyed playing bridge, Hand and Foot and spending time with “The Peanut Club” almost every Sunday evening. She also enjoyed playing Mah Jongg and taught many new players in the metro area. She was an avid Royals baseball fan and cheered for them every game. She was an accomplished rug hooker and created an extensive collection of pieces. She was a member of ATHA, The Association of Traditional Hooking Artists and The Midwest Rug Hookers. She was also a member of The National Mah Jongg League and The New Friends of Kansas City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Esther McCleish of Lone Rock, Iowa and her sister, Patsy McCleish, of San Antonio, Texas. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Richard Schiltz; her three daughters, Kimberly (Craig) Heckman of Genesee, Colorado; Kristi (Doug) Miller of Lenexa, Kansas and Kelly Schiltz of Kansas City, Missouri; granddaughters Kaylee Miller of Kansas City, Missouri, Hannah Miller of Omaha, Nebraska, Eleanor Heckman of Iowa City, Iowa, Abigail Heckman of Fort Collins, Colorado and Olivia Heckman of Genesee, Colorado; sisters Nadine Schliebe of Anchorage, Alaska and Sally Fosha of Calhan, Colorado; brothers Thomas McCleish of Bancroft, Iowa and Kevin McCleish of Lone Rock, Iowa as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, September 26, 2022 at 11:00am in McGilley State Line Chapel, located at 12301 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO 64145.
