JoAnn was born April 9, 1958 to Donald E. and Naomi E. (Barry) Bowman in Kansas City, MO. She was a life-long area resident. JoAnn attended St Gabriel Catholic School and was a 1976 graduate of Winnetonka High School. She was a 1980 graduate of William Jewell College and graduated Magna Cum Laude. She was employed as a Senior Human Resources Retirement Specialist with the city of Kansas City, MO for 30 years and retired in 2016. JoAnn loved attending live musical concerts, cats, the color blue, taking photographs, especially of old barns. She loved visiting ghost towns with a history, swimming, and historical buildings, especially of Kansas City. JoAnn also loved driving around to view the fall foliage and Christmas lights and art.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents Donald E. and Naomi E. Bowman, as well as her adopted parents, Frank and Louise Bartkowski.
Survivors include her husband of 21 years, Jim McCown, brothers Mark (Britt) Bowman and Frank (Janice) Bartkowski, sisters, Kay (Roger) Behrens and Sharon Pennington, many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family expresses their gratitude to JoAnn’s caretakers, Jessica and Debbie, the staff of the Wexford Place, and the care team of Ascend Hospice, and to JoAnn’s great friends.
