Joan was born January 5, 1929, in Clearfield, SD to John and Margaret Collins. Along with an accomplished secretarial career, she was the cornerstone of her family. Joan was proud of her ‘full Irish’ heritage. She had an amazing singing voice, world-class wit and humor, and joyful disposition. Her door was always open and there was always room for one more at her table. Everyone who knew her experienced her warmth and wisdom. She was a member of the choir, funeral committee, and a Eucharistic minister at St. Catherine of Sienna, in Kansas City, MO for over 40 years.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, fifteen siblings, and her beloved husband of 65 years, Loren. She is survived by her four children: Pam (Mike) Morris of Albuquerque, NM, Ann (Mark) Short of Overland Park, KS, Ronald Foltz of Olathe, KS, and Gary Foltz of Overland Park, KS; ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A Rosary will be prayed at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, August 11, 2023, followed by visitation at Church of the Nativity, 3800 W. 119th St., Leawood, KS. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. A private interment will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, and in support of her love of reading, memorial contributions may be made to Literacy KC (https://literacykc.org).
