A celebration of her life will take place Monday, December 13th at 12:30pm at Mt. Moriah Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home,10507 Holmes Road in Kansas City, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Shannon, and is survived by her husband of 50 years, Lindsay Shannon of Kansas City, Missouri, son Johnathan Shannon and wife Mamie Parris of New York City, stepson Lindsay M. Shannon, wife Joanne Shannon, and their sons Nolan and Dempsey of Atlanta, Georgia, brother Larry Detwiler, wife Marilyn, and family of Des Moines, Iowa, and her beloved sister, Sue Davis, of Leawood, Kansas.
Jo was born in Riverside, New Jersey, June 27th, 1949, to Joseph and Madeline Davis. She grew up in Oak Park, Illinois, before graduating high school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Jo moved to Des Moines, Iowa in 1969 where she fell for the charming upstairs neighbor named Lindsay. They married June 5th, 1971 and settled in the Brookside neighborhood of Kansas City, Missouri. With Lindsay, Jo co-owned Kansas City institution BB’s Lawnside BarBQ for over 30 years. A smart and capable businesswoman, she was also vibrant, funny, loving, and kind, and always ready for lively conversation. Jo had a love of showtunes, Barbra Streisand, and the Kansas City Royals. She will be missed dearly.
