

Jimmy Lee Yount, 70, of Kansas City, MO, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Friday April 5, 2024. Jimmy was born to Sidney “Lee” Yount and Delores “Dee” Yount on May 17, 1953 in Kansas City, KS. Jimmy graduated from Ruskin High School in 1971.
He grew up going to the Ozarks with his family and staying on a 33-foot Mahogany cruiser and was a great swimmer and diver. In addition, he was a well-rounded mechanic and could fix anything. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and in his younger years worked for KC BSA, which was one of his favorite jobs that introduced him to a lot of his best friends. After motorcycles, Jim became a legendary Go-Kart racer. His previous mechanic experience helped him teach many individuals how to be great in racing, most of which are still racing to this day. If you knew Jim, you knew above all else he just wanted to be at the track. When he was not there, you could always find Jimmy in a bar enjoying a beer and often times hustling you in a game of pool. He was an avid member of Richey’s Club. He retired from Access Industries as a welder and fabricator in 2003.
His is preceded in death by his Father, Lee Yount; Paternal Grandparents, Earl and Veda Yount; Maternal Grandparents, Ernest and Ruth Sells.
He is survived by his Mother, Delores Yount; Sister, Cindy Yount; Daughter, Jaime Yount (David Gharst Jr); Son, Robert “Bobby” Yount; Grandson, Trae Gharst; Granddaughter, Courtnee Gharst; Many very close friends that were like family and his beloved bulldog Charlee Bear.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 17th, 2024 from 10:00am to 11:00am at Floral Hills Funeral Home and Cemetery, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64133. A Celebration of Life will be held immediately after at Richey’s Club at 11am, 11527 Hickman Mills Drive, Kansas City, MO 64134. Included will be a BBQ meal and cash bar for those attending. Traditional attire is not required, any race shirt is welcome.
