James “Jim” R. Haynes, 64, of Kansas City, MO passed away February 2, 2013. He was most certainly greeted by his beloved wife of 35 years and is overjoyed to be with her again. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 6 at the McGilley & Sheil Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 7 at the McGilley & Sheil Chapel. Interment with military honors will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Raytown. In lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions be given to the Lung Cancer Partnership, The Vicki Welsh Fund for Ovarian Cancer Research or to the Kansas City Hospice House. Jim was born July 29, 1949 in Kansas City, MO to William & Mary Haynes. He was a 1967 Raytown High School graduate where he met his beloved wife Jeannie. Jim was a very proud veteran of the U.S. Naval Air Reserve where he served from 1967-1973 as a Parachute Rigger. Jim & Jeanne married in 1970; he fell in love with her in high school and that love never wavered. During their marriage they had two sons, Joseph & Jeffrey. Jim was preceded in death by his wife in 2005 after a valiant fight with ovarian cancer. He was a volunteer and supporter of the ovarian cancer research. Jim had many passions in life and enjoyed spending time with his friends & family. He worked in advertising, following the footsteps of his father, where he pursued his passion of art. He retired from Nicholson Kovac in 2009. During his time working as an Art Director, he made wonderful friendships & has been meeting with the “Tuesday Lunch Bunch” from the advertising community for more than 30 years. Jim’s biggest passion as of late was his Victory Motorcycle Club. He was the proud owner of a Victory Vision & loved to tour the country with his club friends. His life-long passion in art was in fine woodworking & most recently began using his artistic talent to create magnificent stained glass pieces. Jim is survived by his brother, William Haynes (Patrice); sister, Mary Beth Nelson; son Joseph Haynes (Sarah) and soon to be grandson; son, Jeff Haynes (Kristin) and two granddaughters, Carmen & Lilah. He also leaves his niece, Kimberly Dickerson (Jeremy); nephews, Michael Haynes (Rosia) & James Haynes and many loving friends. The family would like to thank the Kansas City Hospice House for their comfort, compassion & care in his last days. The staff there was not only a rock for Jim but for the family as well.
