Born September 3, 1921 to a hard-working Kansas City family, Jean’s father, Frank, started a butcher and meat shop with his brothers – Lutz Meat Company – and Jean’s mother, Dorothy, once worked as a secretary for a new lawyer named Harry Truman.
In the late 1940’s, Jean met and married the love of her life, Don W. Kinney, Sr. They were married for 63 years before Don’s death in 2010.
Jean was a wonderful cook, seamstress and artist, but she was proudest of being a wife, mother and grandmother – all of which she accomplished to perfection.
She is survived by her beloved son, Don W. Kinney, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Cassandra; granddaughters Lauren Kinney Kruse and Jen Blake Schlegel, and great-grandchildren Cooper Kruse, and Abby and Will Schlegel.
All who met her remember her kindness, her sweet nature and interest in others, and her sense of humor. She will be missed terribly.
A Celebration of Jean’s life and caring spirit will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home with visitation from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Dementia Society of America, www.dementiasociety.org.
