Jan was born on March 26, 1939 in Independence, MO to Elbert and Alameda Snyder. During her earlier years, Jan was an active member of The Rodeo Kids and often rode in the American Royal. She married Richard L Marr in Hernando, MS on June 20, 1958. She attended William Woods College for one year and graduated from the University of Missouri on June 9, 1964 with a degree in Home Economics and on May 11, 1979 with a Master of Arts in Counseling and Guidance. During her career as a marriage and family counselor Jan was instrumental in bringing the Tough Love organization to the Kansas City area, taught classes to prisoners at Lansing State Prison, worked as a contract counselor for Catholic Charities and also ran a private practice, while raising four children.
Jan and Richard were married one day short of 65 years. They have four children, Richard (Kathi), David (Jurea), Scott (Carol) and Patricia (Bob) Miller, 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was an avid gardener and bird lover. She and Richard traveled extensively and loved nothing more than taking their grandchildren on trips.
Jan is missed every day by her family and friends.
