Mrs. Fischer was born August 21, 1935 to James and Eleanor Jeffries. Jan graduated from Paseo High School in 1953. She graduated from Drury College in 1957, and obtained her Master's degree from UMKC in 1959. She married Wayne E. Fischer on April 14, 1957, who predeceased her in 2004.
She taught home economics and made contributions to cook books for colleges, private companies, and for charity. She was a member of the Leawood United Methodist Church, and was a major contributor to the Kansas City Young Matrons and TLC for Children and Families, serving on the latter's board of directors.
She had a full life with many friends, taking dancing lessons and cruises with friends. She is survived by her son, Neil Fischer, his wife Erin, and their children, Jake Fischer and Lincoln Benson; and by her daughter, Laurie Small, her husband Tim, and their three children, James, Alexander, and Jacqueline Small. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 18th 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the chapel at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131. Funeral service at 11:00 a.m directly followed by a Committal at noon at Mt. Moriah Cemetery South.
