James Cornelius Shay

JAMES CORNELIUS SHAY James Cornelius Shay, 81, of Overland Park, KS, went home to the Lord August 24, 2017. He was born September 10, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York to James and May Shay. Jim married his loving wife, Carol, on October 22, 1960. They were married for 56 years and she was at his loving side when he passed away. They are blessed with five children.

He moved to Kansas City with his family in 1974 and served as Chief Financial Officer and Controller for several companies in the area. He was a wonderful husband and father and a long-time member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. He had a wonderful sense of humor, was an avid sports fan and loved his Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Football Giants. He enjoyed classic movies, keeping up on current events, and a truly good conversation with his friends and family.

He is preceded in death by his parents James C. Shay and May Shay. He is survived by his wife, Carol Ann (Hogarty) Shay; his children Maureen Tyrrell and her husband Jeff; Jim Shay and his wife Connie; Patti Dinkel and her husband John; Eileen Weishaar and her husband Marc and Jack Shay and his spouse Laura, and his grandchildren, James Tyrrell, Kate Tyrrell, Jack Tyrrell, Jimmy Shay, Caroline Shay, Elizabeth Shay, Rita Dinkel, Jane Weishaar, Ellen Weishaar and Christopher Weishaar. He will also be missed by his beloved four sisters who he so enjoyed, May Sylvester, Margaret Jansen, Audrey McKinney, and Kathleen Cashin, as well as nieces and nephews. Jim will be missed by all whose lives have been touched by him.

Visitation will be Sunday, August 27,2017, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Rd, Kansas City, MO 64145. A Rosary will be prayed at 2:30 p.m. Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 28, 2017, at 9:00 a.m., at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 3104 Flora Avenue, Kansas City, MO 64109. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 7601 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64138.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Vincent de Paul Church or the Alzheimer's Association Heart of America Chapter, 3856 West 75th Street, Prairie Village, KS 66208.


