He leaves his wife of 59 years, Carol (Tesch) Keiter, his daughter Kim Winterton and husband Larry, his son Jim Keiter and his wife Michelle, and Shelley Keiter and fiancé Greg Guardado. Jim and Carol have eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Jim was born August 4, 1933, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Lon and Rosemary (Shelley) Keiter and was a lifelong resident of the Kansas City Metropolitan area.
After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served his country for three years (1953-1955). Upon returning home he joined the Kansas City Police Department where he retired 30 years later. He then became the Manager of Security for J.C. Nichols where he worked from 1986-1997 before fully retiring. While working for the KCPD Jim earned his Bachelor’s Degree as well as his Master’s Degree from Central Missouri State University.
Jim had a great love for German Shepherds and became a trainer and handler for these beautiful animals where he won various ribbons and trophies.
Jim also had a passion for the Church and he and Carol became members of Longview Chapel Christian Church where he served as Deacon and Chairman of the Evangelism Committee.
There will be a visitation at the Longview Chapel Christian Church, 850 SW Longview Rd., Lee’s Summit, Missouri 64081 from 3:00-4:00 p.m. Friday, January 6, followed by a memorial service at 4:00 p.m. Burial will be in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, 10507 Holmes Road. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church.
