Jimmy, my dearest friend. I remember like it was yesterday the first time we meet 34 years ago. I also remember all the wonderful times we shared together since that day. For the first 10 years of our friendship, we were almost inseparable. Being an only child, you were the closest thing to a brother I could ever have had. Together we dreamed to see what life had to offer in California and we left our friends and family to travel there in 1998 with nothing more than a couple of suitcases and each other. It was just me and you, fighting and struggling to find our way. Those were some of the toughest but best times of my life. I could not have made it if it were not for you, Jimmy. I am eternally grateful to you for that. The memories of those times will be with me forever. I loved California so much I never came back. Because you sharing that dream with me and being by my side to make such a big move, you are directly responsible for the wonderful life I enjoy today. My loving wife, my home, my career, my grandchildren all would not have been possible if it were not for you. You were a wonderful person, with a lot of love to give. You had a tough exterior but those of us lucky enough to get close to you and really know you, know, that on the inside you were a very caring and sensitive person. Smart, strong, loyal, and funny would be the words I would say describe you best. The last few years of your life were very difficult for you I know, and you struggled with many personal issues. Seeing you in that condition was so difficult on me, I could not bare to spend as much time with you as I now wish I would have done. Although there is a giant empty spot in my heart that will never be filled, I feel comfort in knowing you are no longer suffering, in any pain, and finally are at peace. I love you Brother, I will miss you dearly and farewell until we meet again.

My mother and I are deeply saddened by the news of Jimmy passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Romey family. May fond memories of Jimmy bring you comfort during this hard time. 

I taught and coached Jim at Platte County R-III High School. He could, at times, be a wise-guy, but in general, he cared deeply for his friends, enjoyed a good sense of humor, and when challenged, demonstrated real perception and intelligence. I haven't seen Jim in almost 30 years, but I will miss him.
