James Carr Heyer, 87, Gladstone, MO, passed away surrounded by his family on March 23, 2014 at his home. The Mass of Christian Burial is 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 26th at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, burial in White Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 PM Tuesday at the McGilley Antioch Chapel where a rosary will be prayed at 7:30 PM. Contributions are suggested to NorthCare Hospice.
James was born October 23, 1926 to Louise Clarke Heyer and Ellis William Heyer in Rutland, Vermont. He previously lived in Clairmont, NH, Minneapolis, MN, and St. Joseph, MO. On November 25, 1948 he married Mary Ann Minnis at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in St. Joseph. They were members of St Charles Parish and active in Marriage Encounter. James was an avid Kansas City Chiefs and Royals fan. He was a retired accountant (he said “bean counter”) for Thomas Construction and Shaw Excavating. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. James felt his family was his greatest legacy. Two of his grandsons took his name prior to their wedding. He was a good man with a life well lived.
James is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Ann; children, Sue Miller, Nancy (Terry) Arnold, Pat (Kenny) Reiner, Julie Heyer, Scott Heyer; 7 grandchildren, Chad, Jamie, Justin, Nathan, Tye, Sara and Whitney; 10 great grandchildren, Tyler, Spencer, Andrew, Jasmine, Nathan, Jordan, Alyssa, Kendall, Trevor and Della.
