Jimmy, as he was known, was born in Chariton, Iowa on February 10, 1930. After graduating from Corydon High School as a 3 sport letterman in track, basketball, and baseball he entered the USAF. Recently recognized by the National Korean War Museum as one of 2 families in the United States of America to have 5 brothers all serve during active duty during the Korean War. Upon his discharge he would become the 1st person in his family to graduate college, as he earned a degree in Chemistry from Northwest Missouri State University. He was a chemist for over 30 years. His achievements did not slow in his retirement, as in 1992 he gave his first solo concert as a singer. His greatest accomplishment would also occur in 1992, as he would marry, for the first time, to the love of his life Judith Beery. The 23 years they spent together were filled with enough love, and ball room dancing, to last a lifetime.
He is preceded in death by his mom Jessie, and his father George, along with his brother Carl. He is survived by his wife Judith, and brothers George, of Belton, Samuel of St Joseph, Chester of Las Cruces, NM along with his sister Emma of Carriene, MS. In addition, 24 nieces and nephews and many grand nieces and nephews including two who referred to him as Grandpa Jim for their entire lives, Brett and Jack Dunlap of Cumming, GA.
The most kind hearted and thoughtful person I most ever met he remained this way until the end. Leaving many with the thought of “always fill your mind and heart with things that bring you joy.” He will be missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services with military honors are 2:30 PM Saturday, July 18th at the McGilley Antioch Chapel where a visitation will begin at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow the service in East Slope Memorial Gardens, Riverside, MO.
