James Boyer Davis passed away peacefully on August 29, 2021. He was born on July 28, 1930, in a farmhouse outside Easton, Missouri to Gilbert and Margaret Davis. He attended St. Joseph Central High School, where he excelled in athletics, running track, baseball, and playing basketball on the City Championship team. With the start of the Korean War, he enlisted in the US Air Force and was stationed in Austin, TX and Limestone, ME. He rose through the ranks to become a Staff Sergeant and dutifully served his country. After his military service, he returned and graduated with a degree from Northwest Missouri State.
Jim held positions with the Missouri Inspections Bureau and was a Property Manager on the Country Club Plaza. This led him to a highly successful career at Mead Corporation. Jim started at Mead in 1966 and had a 27-year career in sales and sales management. He ultimately was responsible for half of the sales force. It was a great ride with many very talented associates, who feel they owe much of their career success to Jim.
In 1962 he met the love of his life, Karen (Kay) Glunk. After a courtship, Kay and Jim were married in Las Vegas in 1964. This began a marriage of 50 years that brought amazing experiences. He was the patriarch and family was everything. His life was blessed and filled with continual fun and excitement with Kay, and their children, Kelly and Jim. They travelled the world with family and friends alike. His love of golf continued on the course well into his 80s and he cherished time with his seven grandsons, delighting in all their accomplishments.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and his loving wife, Kay. He is survived by his daughter Kelly Morgan (Mitch); son Jim Davis (Julie); grandchildren Brooks Morgan (Searcy), Collin Morgan (Shaina), Davis Morgan, Tyler Morgan, Jack Davis, Joseph Davis, and Johnny Davis, as well as his great grandsons Milam Morgan and Rivers Morgan. A true gentleman, remembered by anyone he met, he cultivated relationships over decades. He shared his time and wisdom with many and will be missed by those he touched. Jim shared with us “Life is a gift. Mine has been extra special, thanks to my family, friends, and this wonderful country we are so privileged to live in and enjoy.”
