Jacob Ray Johnson, age 32, affectionately known as, "Jake", was born on July 22, 1987, in Overland Park, Kansas to Douglas Ray "Doug" Johnson and Rebecca Sue "Becky" Harris. Jake was an exceptional son and wonderful brother to his sister Whitney; Doug and Becky's "Dynamic Duo".
Jake was involved in Special Olympics, scouting and was a dedicated sports fan.
He was a member of the Blue Valley Blue Streaks Special Olympics team; participating in basketball, softball, tennis, track and field and bowling. He was proud to represent the team each year during the Special Olympics State Summer Games in Wichita.
Jake started his scouting career in Tiger Scouts and earned his Eagle Rank with Troop 315 in Olathe, Kansas. He was "Runner Growling Bear of the Night" in the Tribe of Mic O Say. Jake loved Boy Scout Camp at H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation. He continued attending summer camp as an adult leader with the troop. Jake also attended Camp Barnabas and Camp Wonderland through the years growing up.
Jake graduated from Blue Valley Northwest in 2006. He was a lifelong fan of the Huskies JV and Varsity sports teams - football, basketball, volleyball, softball, soccer, baseball, and hockey. He was always along the sidelines supporting the teams, and he was even part of a great tackle during one football game. He enjoyed putting the "hex" on the opposing teams.
After being introduced to KU sports by his paternal grandma, Jake became an avid fan. He loved tailgating at KU football games and cheering on his Jayhawks from behind the basket. He enjoyed meeting Bill Self and the players at basketball camps.
Jake loved his Kansas City sports teams. Nothing else mattered when the Royals game was on; that's all he cared about in that moment. He met Sluggerrr and KC Wolf several times. He was excited for Mahomes' second season with the Chiefs.
Jake never met a stranger. He had a very contagious laugh, and he made sure to let everyone know they were "trouble" or "ornery!"
Jake was preceded in death by his brother, Andrew Blair Johnson; maternal grandparents, Harry and Jean Harris; and paternal grandparents, David Johnson, Beryl Johnson Peters, and Robert Peters.
Jake is survived by his father, Doug Johnson; mother, Becky Harris; sister, Whitney Johnson; nephews, Devin, Jayden, and Zacheriah; many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.
