Howard was born July 6, 1935 to Howard and Mary Arnold in Humboldt, Nebraska. He graduated high school in 1953, in a class of 6 students. His senior year he joined the Army National Guard, then joined the Air Force and served 3 ½ years at Richards Gebaur Air Force Base in Grandview, MO. It was during those years that he began attending the Church of Christ in Grandview. That’s where he met Katie Conner, married her, and where they raised their family.
Howard supported his family through his work at Bendix, Clipper (Billy Goat Industries), McGrew Printing, and then a career as a project manager with United Telecom in 1970. It eventually became Sprint and he retired there in 1999. He was a hard worker, but his greatest work was being a devoted Christian, husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa.
Howard served as a Bible school teacher, part-time Preacher, Deacon and Elder over many decades of his life. He was a faithful Christian and influenced countless people by his example and teaching. He coached years of little league baseball, was an avid yard enthusiast, fixed dozens of cars (and anything else that could break), and took the family on camping trips- making special memories (for a stretch of almost 50 years) at the much anticipated annual family trips to Bennett Springs State Park.
He is preceded in death by his parents Howard and Mary; his brothers Norman, Leonard, and Lester; his sister, Dorothy; and two great- grandchildren, and Otis the cat. I know they are rejoicing together!
Howard is survived by his wife Katie and their three children- Jim (Jill) Arnold, Chris (Anita) Arnold, and Jennifer (Rick) Walker; 14 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren (and counting). He loved his family, as well as his church family, and will be greatly missed.
He was a good man.
