Helen F. Thoennes, 93, Prairie Village, Kansas, passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, October 9, 2013. Born February 14, 1920 in the German Catholic parish of Our Lady of Sorrows in Kansas City, Missouri, she was the youngest of two daughters born to Walter and Mary Vogel. She married James E. Thoennes on July 25, 1941 at Our Lady of Sorrows. Jim and Helen were richly blessed with nine children, 21 grandchildren, and 39 great-grandchildren.
A devoted wife, homemaker, mother, and grandmother, Helen was preceded in death by her husband Jim, daughters Ruth, Marsha, and Susan, and sons David and Michael. She is survived by sons Martin (Peggy), Daniel (Betty), Paul (Lisa), daughter Rita, daughters-in-law Paula and Karen.
Visitation with family will be Saturday, October 12, at 10:00 a.m. at Cure of Ars Catholic Church, 9401 Mission Road, with a Rosary at 10:45 a.m., followed by a Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Catholic Community Hospice, 9740 W. 87th Street, Overland Park, Kansas 66212.
