Helen Frances Sides

Helen had 3 brothers and 1 sister.

She worked at McDonald Aircraft in St. Louis during WWII. She was married to Garth Dallman Sides who was killed in North Africa in WWII. A war widow, Helen married Garth's surviving brother Eldon Essman (Bud) Sides. They were married 56 years until Eldon's death in 2002.

Helen worked at Montgomery Ward, retiring after 28 years. She and Bud enjoyed traveling and working together. Helen was raised a Southern Baptist which influenced her life and which she passed on to her family.

Helen was a self-taught pianist and accompanied many choirs. Seeing her family singing, playing the piano and guitar brought her much joy. She enjoyed working cross word and jig saw puzzles. A highlight of her life was visiting Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial. Helen and Bud were long-time Royals fans and held season tickets for a number of years.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary at Tirey J. Ford Post 21 and enjoyed the breakfast and dinner companionship offered there. She was a past member of Independence Avenue Baptist and Birchwood Baptist Church.

Helen was a loving wife, mother and grandmother to 6 generations.

She is survived by daughter Carolyn McCaulley, Victoria Kirkpatrick (Frank), and Eldonna Davis (Bob). In addition she is survived by 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-great-grandchild whom she called "my people." She was proceeded in death by parents, brother and sister, 2 husbands, son James Weldon Sides, and granddaughter Deborah Sue McCaulley. She was loved and blessed.

The family thanks the compassionate caregivers of Kansas City Hospice who assisted in keeping her wish to be at home, before transitioning Home.
