Helen Kathryn Shirk

She was born in Barnett, MO, to Florence and Maude Dobson on September 30, 1932. She graduated from Paseo High School in 1951 and began work as an executive secretary at Business Men’s Assurance Company. She married her beloved husband, Richard Shirk in 1955. They celebrated their 68th anniversary in August. She became a homemaker and raised two daughters. She returned to the workplace in the early 1970s and worked at various administrative positions, including at Multiple Listing Service and then for the Army Corps of Engineers and the Department of Labor until her retirement.

Helen accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She was a member of Abundant Life Church in Lee’s Summit. She was a devoted wife and mother and enjoyed traveling, reading and spending time with her family.

Helen is survived by her husband, Richard Shirk, her daughters Lori Stier (Ron) and Keri Porter (Jim), and her grandchildren Emily, Annie, Blake and Tara. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Della McCarthy and Thelma Cleary.

Visitation will be from 9:00 - 10:00 AM, Wednesday, September 20, 2023 followed by a funeral service at Newcomer's Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64133. A graveside service and burial will follow immediately from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Floral Hills East Memorial Gardens, 25203 E US Highway 50, Lee’s Summit, MO 64086
