Helen Murphy, 92, of Independence, Mo passed away September 7, 2015 after a full and happy life. She was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Sister-in-law, Aunt, Great Aunt and Friend. Helen was born June 22, 1923 to parents Russell and Margaret Duncan. She married Robert Cleveland Murphy in 1947 and raised their four children, Roberta (Bobbie), Joyce, Marilyn and Michael in Kansas City, Mo.
Her family always came first, she would enjoy talking to her daughter, grandson or niece daily. She was an avid sports fan, would never miss watching a Chiefs or Royals game and loved all of the local college teams. Helen enjoyed making crafts, especially ‘mug rugs’ using plastic canvas. Anyone that would even briefly meet her would get a mug rug immediately, she also donated many to St. Luke’s South to give to patients. Helen enjoyed reading and would trade books with the ladies she loved visiting with while getting her hair styled each week. She was very involved with her 1940 graduating class from William Chrisman High School, their monthly luncheons would give her so much joy.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, Lester and Russell Duncan, her daughter, Bobbie Baker, her son Michael Murphy and grandson David Biggers. She is survived by her children, Joyce Biggers and Marilyn Hayes, her grandchildren, Brandon Baker, Candy Cook and Earl Hayes and great grandson, Ian Cook.
Visitation will be Friday, September 11, 2015 from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. Burial will follow. Condolences may be left at www.floralhillsfuneralhome.com.
