

Gus was born to George and Anastacia Baroutas Jianas in Kansas City on Sept. 19, 1923. After graduating from Central High School, he served in the U.S. Air Force. Upon his return, he began the Green Mill Candy Company with his brothers. He married his wife, Ethel, in 1951. Serving as president of Jianas Brothers' Packaging Company since 1981, he enjoyed working with his sons.
Gus was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Pete, Alex, and Bill. He is survived by his wife, Ethel; his sisters, Katherine Ellis and Edith Giannios; his three sons and their wives, Greg and Suzie, Tom and Susie, and Steve and Dawn, and many nieces and nephews. He and Ethel were also blessed with seven grandchildren, Courtney, Gus, Matt, Michael, Lilly, Tessa, and Nicholas, and one great- grandchild on the way. He will always be remembered for the love he had for his family. His smile and his fun, energetic personality will be greatly missed. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO 64145 with Trisagion Service at 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 28, at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation, 12001 Wornall, Kansas City, MO 64145.
