Gordon Hamilton Jr., 85, of Prairie Village, Kansas, passed away peacefully on November 17th, 2018. Gordon, a lifelong resident of Kansas City, was born June 1st, 1933 to Gordon Harold Hamilton Sr. and Lucille (Ross) Hamilton. He attended the Pembroke Country Day School, graduating in 1951. He then attended the University of Kansas, where he was a Phi Gamma Delta. Continuing his education out of state, he graduated from the University of Dayton School of Business in Ohio. Gordon was a former member of the University Club, River Club, and Mission Hills Country Club
In 1957, Gordon married Beverly Anne Burrus of Independence, Missouri. The couple spent the next three years in Paris, France while Gordon was serving in the Army as a Second Lieutenant and played on the Army football team. Returning to Kansas City in 1960, Gordon began a 53 year career as a stockbroker. First with B.C. Christopher, and later retiring at the age of 80 from Perkins Smart & Boyd. Gordon and Beverly had two sons, Gordon III and Michael.
During the 1970’s, Gordon and his second wife, Mary Ann Wiles Noah, spent summers on Lake Miltona, Minnesota and winters in Barbados. They lived in Fairway, Kansas and had an active life and a close-knit blended family.
Through his life Gordon curated an interest for sports car racing and collecting classic cars. He was a member of the SCCA and loved spending weekends racing. He enjoyed maintaining his prized possession, a 1994 green Cadillac which he fondly named “Mrs. Nelson”.
With his two sons, he enjoyed ski trips to Colorado, SCCA racing weekends, Chiefs games, and he never missed an opportunity to support his sons’ football games and sports car races.
Gordon was blessed to have many lifelong friendships. He was always polite, wearing a smile, and making others laugh with his great sense of humor. He treasured hosting and attending “dinner” parties with his friends. He enjoyed his special friendship and nearly daily visit for 70 years with Aunt Joey who is a very special person to the family.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon Harold Hamilton Sr. and Lucille (Ross) Hamilton; brothers, John Hamilton and Richard Hamilton; and sister, Sallie Jensen. He is survived by his sons, Gordon Hamilton III (Ann Marie) and Michael Hamilton (Lisa); and seven grandchildren, Gordon IV, John, Charles, Dasha, Leslie, Michael, and Katherine.
We’d like to give a special thanks to Gordon’s dear friend, Jay Gordon, for his continuous support and always being there for both him and his family and to the wonderful caregivers from Home Care Assistants.
