Glenn was born in Cameron, Missouri on June 13, 1924. Drafted out of high school in January of 1943, he proudly answered the call of service to his country in World War II. He served under General George Patton’s Third Army, The 8th Armored Division known colloquially as “The Thundering Herd” and “The Iron Snake”. The Battle of the Bulge, Liberation of Halberstadt-Zwieberge Camp (a subcamp of Buchenwald concentration camp), and his award of 3 Bronze Stars name a few of his many accolades during his service.
A dedicated man of Christ he was a charter member of Red Bridge Christian Church and faithfully served in many capacities. He was an elder, member of the Fellowship Committee and handled various church tasks during his tenure. Later in life he joined and was a member of First Christian Church in Blue Springs, MO. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle.
Glenn never knew a stranger, and joins his wife Floise “Flo” Burge, his life-partner of nearly 74 years and best friend whom he wed in 1947 in death. Their love and commitment to each other was apparent to all that knew them.
Glenn is survived by his grandson Brett Burge, wife Christi, two great-grandchildren Bella and Finn Burge, sister Theresa Holcomb, husband Larry, and several nieces and nephews too numerous to name. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents Glen Thomas Burge, wife Anna May, his son Mark Alan Burge, wife Nikki, brother Keith Burge, wife Ethel, sisters Doris Jean and Juanita Jones, husband Charlie.
Visitation and services will be held Saturday August 5th at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, starting 10-11 followed by service for family and friends. A graveside service with military honors will be held at Green Lawn Cemetery, immediately following. If so desired, in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to AMVETS
