Glen Vance Duston died peacefully at home on February 7, 2023. Glen was born to Arthur Wesley Duston and Kittie Smith Duston in Tulsa, Oklahoma on September 26, 1927. He was raised in Tulsa and visited his grandparents with some regularity in Burlington, Kansas. Other childhood trips included Washington, Kansas, where his father’s parents had settled, as well as trips to California and Mexico. After graduating from East Central High School in Tulsa, he attended Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College, now known as Oklahoma State University. He graduated in 1952 with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Commerce. Upon completion of his college courses, he was drafted into the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War from 1952-1954 serving at Camp Gordon now known as Fort Gordon. Once he was discharged, he traveled to both coasts, visiting Florida and Washington, before settling in Kansas City. He joined TWA in 1959 and spent his career there working in Data Processing, retiring some 31 years later in 1991.
Glen married Bess nee Heflin in Kansas City, Missouri on June 15, 1963. They were happily married for 58 years, before her death in 2022. They had two sons. Glen was the consummate family man, enjoying meals and conversations until the ten o’clock news, which he watched religiously. A member of Fairview Christian Church, he regularly attended Sunday services and the men’s Monday coffee group as long as he was able. He was also a skilled handyman, with a talent for building and fixing things around the house and in the yard.
Glen is preceded in death by his parents; son, Greg Duston; brother, Dean Duston; and wife Bess.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Hal and Altona Duston; grandchildren Miri, Tamra, Clara, Hannah and Russell Duston; great-grandchildren Cadence and Korra Lentine and Lochlan Blagrave all of Kansas City, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on February 19 from 5 PM to 8 PM at McGilley Antioch Chapel, 3325 NE Vivion Rd; Kansas City, Missouri 64119.
Service will be February 20 at 10 AM at Cathedral Church of the King, 728 N Stevenson Rd. Olathe KS 66061. Lunch to follow.
Interment will be at 3 PM at Graceland Cemetery, 1015 Lynx Ln, Burlington, Kansas 66849.
Please note that travel one-way to the cemetery will be approximately one hour and twenty minutes.
