Gerald B. Smith

Gerald B. Smith, age 85, of Independence, MO, passed away March 3, 2018. Visitation at 11AM on Thursday, March 8, at Floral Hills Funeral Home with funeral at 12PM. Burial at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Genevieve and Laurence Smith, first wife Virginia Dean Smith, and second wife Geraldine Gorman.

He is survived by his twin brother James Smith, his children Pam (Mark) Scogin of Arkansas, Debbie (Dennis) Dalton of Peculiar, Karen Carr of Independence; 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandson; as well as his caregivers Rose (Bob) Wienke and Dawn (Mark) Zachgo.

Jerry was a 1951 graduate of Central High School, a lifetime member of the Glaziers Union #558, an Eagle Scout, a member of Eastgate Christian Church, and attended Palmer Center in Independence.

Jerry enjoyed camping and fishing, especially at Pomme de Terre Lake. He and Virginia were league bowlers. He and Geraldine enjoyed their senior dances. He loved to garden and bragged of his tomato plants reaching heights of eight feet. He was an avid fan of the Royals and Chiefs. Most of all, Jerry loved the Lord and frequently shared the message of Jesus Christ with others.
