Gerald was born on May 15, 1926 in Duluth, Minnesota, to Ralph and Leta Pountain. He graduated from Argentine High School in 1944. He graduated from Louisiana State University in 1966 with a B. S. in General Studies majoring in Mechanical Engineering and Management. He served in the U. S. Air Force from 1944 to 1946 as an air plane mechanic.
Gerald married the love of his life, Mary, on June 20, 1948. They were blessed with 74 years together and one daughter, Denise.
Gerald’s hobbies were traveling and painting and he was an avid reader.
After moving to Kansas City in 1983, Gerald and Mary attended Central Assembly of God church in Raytown which later became Crown Pointe Church in Lee’s Summit. They are blessed with a wonderful church family including many close friends who have enriched their lives with their love and support.
Gerald is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Leta, his brother Jim and sister, Juanda.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, of Independence, Missouri and his daughter Denise and husband Joe, of Texas. His brother, Don, of California and brother, Jon, and wife Susie, of Oklahoma and several nieces and nephews.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to Jacob Flores of Aging in Place for his many hours of care and companionship. We are also grateful to the nurses at Crossroads Hospice who took such good care of our loving husband and father during his final days. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Crossroads Hospice in Independence, Missouri.
A visitation will be held from 10-11 am, service 11 am, on Wednesday, July 20 at Crown Pointe Church, 5950 NE Lakewood Way, Lee's Summit, MO 64064. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO.
