Gerald Alan Hill, 84, of Kansas City, Missouri, died July 1, 2014 under hospice care. Jerry was born August 2, 1929 in Independence, Missouri, the son of David Bennett Hill and Dorothy Edith Jewell Hill. Jerry graduated from Paseo High School where he managed the football team and was involved in DeMolay. He married Dorris Jean Hill on November 22, 1950.
Jerry served in the Army from 1951 to 1953 when he was honorably discharged as a Private First Class. He then worked as a Manufacturer’s Representative for multiple steel and hardware companies until he was in his 60’s. He continued his career as an Assistant Funeral Director for Mt. Moriah, where he retired after over 20 years of service.
Jerry was a member of the Kansas City Police Reserves for 11 years during the 1950s and 1960s. He was also a member of the Heart of America Hardware Club and voted their president in 1964. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon in addition to holding multiple other offices throughout the years. Jerry was also involved with the Boy Scouts of America, volunteering his time as an adult leader to his son, Mike’s, Boy Scout troop.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Eugene David Hill, and his wife Dorris Jean. Jerry is survived by his son Mike Hill (Joyce) of Belton, Missouri, daughter Patty Herlihy (Joe) of Denver, Colorado, grandson Jeff Hill (Felicia) of Gladstone, Missouri, granddaughter Jami Weichert (Bryan) of Overland Park, Kansas, and great-grandchildren, Christopher Campbell, Steven Campbell, Susan Hill, Brittany Hill, Brandon Hill, Cadence Weichert, and Sylas Weichert.
Visitation will be held Sunday July 6, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 100 West Red Bridge Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64114. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest at Mt. Moriah Cemetery, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up in his name at the First Baptist Church to be designated to the church and Kansas City Hospice.
