

Gerald Kent (Jerry) Engelmann age 74 of Kansas City, Missouri, died on Sept. 3, 2011 at home. Memorial services will be 1 pm, Wed. Sept 7 at Mt. Moriah and Freeman Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Wayside Waifs or City Union Mission. Jerry was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on Oct. 28, 1936 to Ursula and J.D. Engelmann. He was raised and went to school in Chillicothe, Missouri. He attended grade school at St. Columbans and graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1954. He attended Rolla School of Mines and Kansas City Junior College. He was married to Marjorie Norman at Our Lady of Good Council in Kansas City in May of 1957. They had three children, Victoria, Scott and Nancy. He worked in the retail business for many years in various management positions at Gateway Sporting Goods on the Plaza, Tempo Division of Gambles, Ace Hardware and Montgomery Wards. He was owner of Southwest Fence Company. After his retirement, he worked part-time for Dillards. Jerry loved scouting. As a youth he was an Eagle Scout and a Firebuilder in the Tribe of the Mic-O-Say. As an adult, he was deeply involved in scouting serving as a Scout Master, District Commissioner, Merit Badge counselor and other capacities for many years. He was a great outdoors man and instilled his love of nature and the wilderness to his scouts and family. He loved fishing, hunting, camping, canoeing, scuba diving and spending time at the Lake of the Ozarks. He went on many Canadian wilderness trips with the scouts and different family members. He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with his children, grand children and great grand children and other family and friends. Jerry was preceded in death by a daughter, Victoria Ann Shoemaker. He is survived by his wife of the home, Marjorie, son and wife, Scott and Linda Engelmann, a daughter and husband Nancy and Jim McKim, six grand children, Justin Shoemaker, Jeremiah Shoemaker, Nicole Engelmann, Jacob Engelmann, Benjamin and Ian McKim, great granddaughters, Victoria, Elisabeth and Isabelle Shoemaker, a sister and her husband, Julianne and John Watson, additionally, two constant canine companions, Lili and Minni.
