George Patrick Stoppelman passed away from Septic Shock, at the age of 27 on November 14, 2023. He leaves behind his parents, John and Bridget Stoppelman, and his little sister, Elizabeth, who all love him more than life itself. He also leaves behind his loving Golden Retriever, Diesel. Although he left this world too soon, we know he is in a much better place.
George was born August 12, 1996, in Houston, Texas. Adopted at birth, he truly was a gift from God.
Although he only spent three weeks in Texas while the adoption paperwork was being filed, he was a proud Texan -- where everything is bigger -- including George. But nothing could compare to the size of his good and gentle heart.
George became a big brother in 2001 with the adoption of his sister Elizabeth, and once he was assured that she didn’t have cooties, the kisses were endless. George was her protector. She couldn’t get away with anything. On her first day of kindergarten, when she decided to go out of the building a different way (always the independent one), George told the bus driver to wait while he went into the school to search for her. He really loved his little sister.
George had a wonderful, love-filled childhood. He had amazing friends, endless adventures, and travels. George grew up in Lee’s Summit and graduated from Lee’s Summit High School in 2015. George was blessed in his life with some amazing teachers who were strong and fierce advocates for him as he managed his autism and dyslexia. His in-home daycare providers, his Aunt Mary and Patti, loved him like he was their own, and he loved them right back.
George worked for Garda World Security Services as an Armed Security Guard and loved the work that he did. It was the most perfect job for him because it enabled him to be everyone’s big brother and protector. He most especially loved his coworkers, and the work he did made him proud and gave him a sense of confidence.
George is preceded in death by his maternal Grandfather, Patrick J. Cahill (Grandpa Laddy).
He is survived by his parents, his sister, his dog, his paternal Grandparents, Richard and Barbara Stoppelman, and his maternal Grandmother, Bridgena Cahill. He leaves behind so many who loved him, including 10 Uncles, 9 Aunts, 28 cousins, and best friends Alex and Kaelee. He was a blessing to his family and friends. To all of us, he will always be King George.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in his name to Camp Encourage: 4025 Central, Kansas City, MO 64111. https://campencourage.org. George loved it when he attended camp along with other kids like him, living with Autism.
