George is survived by his wife, Juanita L. Wood, of Leawood, Kansas. His four daughters: Karen Fitzsimons (Dean), Patricia Schweitzer (Tom Grogan), Jeanine Oxford (David) and Marilee Shepard (Kevin), and 10 grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Helene Schweitzer, and Katrina Costello.
George was born in Los Angeles, CA, on September 5, 1930. He often recalled his childhood memories of riding his bike through the Hollywood Hills and spending afternoons playing baseball or at the beach. After losing his parents at an early age he moved to Kansas City to live with his extended family. He was a graduate of Hogan High School (1948), and Benedictine College of Atchison Kansas. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the US Army.
With a long and successful career in sales, business and marketing, George worked for Union Carbide, Wick Building Systems, and Aylward Products. George was a devout Catholic and very active in the Catholic Church, particularly St. Thomas More Parish (Kansas City). George always strived to be a faithful steward of the spirit of life that was entrusted to his care.
George loved spending his time with his lifelong friends, golf, baseball and the Lake of the Ozarks. He was devoted to his family and friends.
A celebration of life is scheduled for Thursday, July 9, 2015, at St Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO. Visitation will be held at 9:30am followed by a funeral mass at 10:30am. A private burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
