George was born February 1st, 1950 in Kansas City, Missouri to the late Charles and Patricia (Potts) Powers. George was the oldest of five siblings including Daniel, Charles, Robert and Patricia. Growing up George was involved in Boy Scouts and ultimately became an Eagle Scout. George attended Wentworth Military Academy where he then later joined the U.S. Army in 1969. He was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany during the Vietnam War. George married Cynthia Holiman in 1977. They were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Angela Nicole Powers in 1986.
George was a renowned insurance agent at Reliable Insurance Company for thirty years and ultimately retired from his Agency Management position in 2011. George was awarded many different honors through his passion of sales and people. George also known as Greg by family and friends was a true fisherman. He loved everything about fishing and was fortunate enough to be able to go on some amazing fishing trips including his favorites Alaska and Canada. However, his latest hobby became spending time with his new granddaughter Ashlynn Marie. George possessed a selfless personality with the generosity of an Angel and touched the lives of almost anyone he met. He will be greatly missed by friends and family especially his story telling ability, work ethic, dedication and his genuine eagerness to help people.
George is survived by his loving sibling’s the late Daniel Powers, Robert Powers, Charles Powers and Patricia Hofmeister, his loving daughter Angela Duarte and her husband Adam Duarte and his granddaughter Ashlynn Marie Duarte.
Visitation will be from 2:00-3:00 p.m. followed by funeral service at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 17th, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. Private burial in Keeny Cemetery in Cameron, Missouri.
