He was born in Kosiv, Ukraine on March 17, 1926. WWII and the Korean War forced change upon the direction of his life. At the age of fifteen George was separated from his family in Ukraine and placed on a farm in West Germany to work during WWII. Over the course of years, he returned many times to visit this family. After WWII, George was sponsored to move to the USA. He loved his new country and was forever grateful to live here. From December 1950 – November 1952, proudly served as an Army Sergeant in the Korean War. George married Irene Teiwes in March 1957. They were both employed at Tension Envelope. George worked there after his return from duty in Korea until his retirement. George was a printer and had a keen eye for proofing print work and analyzing errors then implementing necessary corrections. His attention to detail was also evident in his hobbies of investing, lawn and tree care, letter writing and playing chess.
Together with his wife of over 50 years, George and Irene helped many of their family members and friends. Whether they were sending care packages, money or personal service, the couple was devoted to helping others.
George was often the life of the party and knew no strangers. His outgoing personality peppered with funny remarks and stories paired with his contagious laugh struck straight to the hearts of many. He was never shy to also bear the brunt of his own or others’ jokes. George was a fan of musicals, television sit-coms and dancing.
George, almost 98, leaves family and friends amazed by his ability to persevere. He will be missed by his daughter, Sonja, grandchildren and their families: John Michael and Megan, Alisa, Monica and David, great-grandchildren: Anne, John, Lena, Frank, Siena, Sonja Ann, James and Ella, extended family: brother-in-law and family: Bill and wife Judy: niece: Jennifer and husband Stuart, children Alexis, Lara; nephew: Justin and wife Jenny, children Jack, Ava; Tim and wife Michelle, children Jonathan and Stefanie. Also, his friends from the Evergreen Community and Hospice who were the driving factor of his longevity.

A committal service for George will be held Friday, March 15, 2024 at 3:00 PM at Mount Moriah Cemetery South, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131.
