September 1, 1953 - September 5, 2023
Overland Park, Kansas – George Michael Morgan passed away at home in the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 5, after a more than six year battle with cancer. Janice, his wife of 48 years, and all four of his children were by his side.
George was born in Kansas City, MO and lived in the greater Kansas City area his whole life. He graduated from Center High School, class of 1971. In the years following graduation, George worked as an EMT and master plumber, before cultivating a career as a custom home builder in the Overland Park area. He prided himself in developing friendships with clients that lasted through the years. Those that crossed paths with George knew he never met a stranger, often offering to help make repairs for those in need, never asking for anything in return.
And though he loved his work, he loved being a grandfather even more. He never missed an opportunity to attend one of his grandkids’ sporting events, take them fishing, play in the pool or make family memories traveling to Colorado, Florida or most recently Wisconsin.
He is survived by the love of his life, Jan Morgan, and his four children, George Christopher Morgan (Shikshya), Julia Rice (Chris), John Morgan (Natalie) and Brie Bauer (Reid); and his grandchildren, Brecken, Crew and Henley Rice, Bryn and Miles Morgan, and Brooks and Barrett Bauer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Aileen and Charles Morgan, his eldest brother Gene Morgan, younger sister Linda Bay and granddaughter Hudson Rice. George was the fourth oldest of 10 children. He is survived by his remaining 7 siblings—Loretta Rood (Geoff), Steve Morgan (Joanne), Susie Lambright (Roy), Jimmy Morgan (Becky), Jeff Morgan (Kelly), Mark Morgan (Roberta), and Matt Morgan. He has many nieces and nephews that loved spending time with him.
Services
A funeral mass for George will be held October 6 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Parish. In lieu of flowers, the family has established a memorial fund at Children’s Mercy of Kansas City (see URL below). Given George’s love of kids, we would like to honor his memory by helping lighten the financial burden for families battling childhood cancer.
