George Daniel Garrett Jr., 69, passed away September 25, 2015. He was born in Springview, Nebraska, to Arthora L. and George Daniel Garrett, Sr.
George, as he was known to some or Dan/Danny to his family, was married for 33 years to his wife, Rebecca (Beck). He had one daughter, Heidi Garrett-McClain and four grandchildren, Peyton, Brennen, Sean and Connor; two sisters and their husbands; Regina and Gary Ellmaker and Janelle and Stephen James; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
George graduated from East High School, class of 1963. Upon graduation he joined the Army and became a member of the Army Security Agency (1963 – 1967) as a Top Secret Crypto Analyst stationed in Berlin, breaking codes and analyzing Soviet communications and troop movements.
After leaving the Army, he worked at ARMCO Steel before attending UMKC and CSMU with a BA in Accounting. Then, in 1974, he went to work for the US Dept. of Agriculture Farm Service Agency. There he became a Systems Accountant, Management Analyst and later a supervisor in the Financial Accounting Division’s Payment Certification Branch. George was very proud of his employees and the work they did helping to support national and international commodity operations such as transportation of commodities to countries in need and national feeding programs from school lunch, elderly, Indian, and Disaster areas.
George retired from USDA in 2008 and enjoyed retirement. He was a big fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and enjoyed reading and studying cars of every kind.
Memorial service will be 2:00pm, Saturday, October 10, 2015, at Floral Hills. Family will receive friends beginning at 1:00pm, at the chapel.
