George Davis Jr., 95, of Shawnee Mission, Kansas, passed away peacefully at home on January 18, 2013. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 26, 2013, at Community of Christ Church, 79th & Mission Road, Prairie Village, Kansas. Elder John Snider will be officiating. George was born October 3, 1917, and raised in a loving family in Bevier, Missouri. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1942-1945 in the South Pacific in the Solomon Islands area and later on Eniwetok atoll. He married Eleanor Dallam on October 24, 1947, at the Congregational Church in Kansas City. George was employed with HNTB as a civil engineer for 35 years, retiring in 1983. George was dedicated to his family, an active member of his church, & enjoyed many pursuits including golfing, traveling, working in his yard, and spending time with family & friends. He welcomed opportunities to help others, and leaves a legacy of fond memories and many examples of sharing from a generous heart. Our lives are greatly enriched by the love he brought. He is survived by his three daughters, Gwendolyn Becker and her husband Bill, Charlene Huff, and Elaine Davis; seven grandchildren: Shaun, Justin, & Todd Becker, Kathlene, Matthew, Christine, & Heather Huff; great- and great-great grandchildren; his brother Glenn Davis; his nieces and nephews; and the rest of his family and many friends. George joins his beloved wife of 58 years, Eleanor, sister Margaret King, parents, and other loved ones who preceded him in death. He will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.
