Gene E. Weigel

Gene E. Weigel, 88, Olathe, Kansas, passed away January 31, 2012. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Rosary at 7:30 p.m., Friday, February 3, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 4, at Guardian Angel Catholic Church, 43rd and Mercier. Burial will follow in Mt. Moriah Cemetery South. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Missouri Nurses Foundation, c/o Krista Lepper, 1904 Bubba Lane, P.O. Box 105228, Jefferson City, Missouri 65110. Mrs. Weigel was born May 30, 1923 in Atchison, Kansas, daughter of James E. and Geneva (Jones) Minor. She graduated from St. Margaret Hospital, School of Nursing on April 8, 1945. She had worked at St. Mary’s Hospital for most of her nursing career. She was a member of the Guardian Angel Quilting Club. On July 10, 1946 Gene married Alfred Weigel, who preceded her in death March 27, 2010. She was also preceded in death by two sons Christopher and Michael Weigel. She is survived by her children Ann Halterman (Michael), Alfred Weigel, Carole Lakey (Randy), John Weigel (Laura), and Melissa Tritsch (Steve); brother William Minor of Kirksville, Missouri; fourteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
