Visitation will be held Monday, June 22, 2020, 11:00am to 1:00pm. Funeral Service will be at 1:00pm at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO. Graveside Service will be at Mt. Moriah Cemetery at 3:00pm.
Gary was born January 25, 1950 in Kansas City, MO, a son of Leo and Gloria (Toman) Fitzjerald. He was a 1968 Graduate of Center High School, Kansas City, MO. He married the love of his life, Kathryn Chadwick on November 17, 1973.
After high school, Gary enlisted in the US Navy. He was on the USS Saratoga until January 1972. He worked at Skelly for five years then went to Wornall Automotive until he retired in 2013. He became a member of VFW #1935 in Adrian and became a commander in 2018. Gary loved cars, traveling, dancing and spending time with his family. Gary was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, neighbor and veteran. He was always the first to help and the last to leave.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Jennifer Ann Fitzjerald. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Kathy, of the home; two daughters, Nichole Rusow (Jeremy), Archie, MO, and Laura Sanders (Alvin), Independence, MO; one sister, Paula Chadwick, Bucyrus, KS; and four grandchildren, Hannah & Mason Rusow, Shelbie & Olivia Sanders.
