Gary was raised on a farm in the Roads Community, where he learned the value of working hard at a very young age. He was a 1962 graduate of Stet High School in Stet Missouri where he was a standout athlete in baseball, basketball and track. After graduation Gary joined the Army National Guard where he served for six years. He began working at the Ford Motor Company in 1967 and retired after 40 years of service in 2007. Not being able to “stay retired,” Gary then started a mowing business where he worked tirelessly until 2020. He was an extremely hard worker, and his family was his pride and joy. Gary hardly ever missed an activity at school or a sporting event that his grandchildren were involved in. He enjoyed family gatherings, playing golf, riding the mower, and for some reason, he loved John Elway and the Denver Broncos. Gary attended the Lighthouse Chapel, where he enjoyed spending time with his church family while bantering with his “Bronco Buddy.”
Gary is survived by his wife Trudy of 52 years; his two sons, Preston Davis (Lori) of Oak Grove, Missouri, and Jon Davis (Karisa) of Kansas City, Missouri; five grandchildren; Carson Lee, Gavin James, Kamree Grace, Kenadee Kay, and Kal Ryan; one sister in-law, Lisa Castilleja; one brother-in-law, Russ Kunza, along many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett and Mary Sue Davis and his two sisters, Joyce Allwood and Lois Jean O’Dell.
A celebration of life for Gary will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at the McGilley Antioch Chapel, with visitation from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by a 6 PM memorial service, concluding with the rendering of military honors.
