Visitation is from 9:00 – 10:00 AM Saturday, February 12th, with the funeral service at 10:00 AM, at McGilley Antioch Chapel. Graveside service will be 1:00 PM Saturday at the Woodlawn Cemetery, 551 KS-68, Pomona, KS 66076. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to The Cardiac Transplant Fund #260306, St. Luke’s Foundation, 901 E 104th St., Suite 100S, Kansas City, MO 64131. These funds are used for transplant recipients who are experiencing financial challenges to provide medication.
Gary was born January 25, 1942 to William “Bill” and Essie “Dottie” (Gragg) Burns in Ottawa, KS. He was a graduate of North Kansas City High School. Gary was a veteran of the U.S. Marines with the 9th Marine Corps District where he received the Good Conduct and Rifle Expert badges. For 13 years Gary was a member of the Riverside Police Dept. and retired as a captain. He also worked as a mechanic for Trans World Airlines. Gary was a commercial licensed pilot, owning a private airplane. He also enjoyed sailing, horses, dogs, target practice at the range, photography and cooking.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Michael Burns of Fayetteville, AR; and his daughter, Cynthia Ramaker of Racine, WI.
Survivors include his wife, Beth Ellen Burns of the home; son, David Burns and wife, April of Kansas City; his grandchildren, Zhon and Melissa Burns of Kansas City, Crystal and Chip Dixon of Jasper, AR, Samantha and Serenity Burns of Kansas City, Caitlyn, Conner, and Cailey Ramaker of Farmington, AR; 7 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.
