Frederick Charles Riley, 89, of Overland Park, KS, died February 24, 2024. The son of the late Leslie and Maude Riley, he was born June 26, 1934, in Kansas City, MO, and died Saturday of a stroke in Overland Park, KS.
A well-known and award-winning Kansas City area homebuilder, he is survived by his children Debbie Danner and her husband Ron, Debbie Millikan and her husband Bob, Christopher Riley and his wife Kathy, and Curtis Riley and his wife Anoushka, 11 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. A man of deep Christian faith and extravagant generosity who served on the boards of numerous area organizations, he built hundreds of homes over a half-century-long career. After his wife Martha survived a debilitating stroke in 2010 that restricted her speech and movement, he remade himself into her devoted caregiver, hairdresser, makeup artist, medic, interpreter and travel agent until her death in 2015, and he inspired many with the relentlessness of his love. His family surrounded him at the hospital when he died.
A visitation will take place on Saturday, March 9, from 1-2 PM, with service at 2 PM, at Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to The Lighthouse, 11300 St. Charles Rock Road, Bridgeton, MO 63044; or to De Soto Youth Ministry, P.O. Box 545, De Soto, KS 66018.
