Frank A. Ferro, born March 12, 1922 in Kansas City, MO, passed away peacefully on Memorial Day, May 30, 2016, at 12:15 a.m., while holding the hand of his beloved wife of 63 years and surrounded by family.
Frank graduated from Northeast high School in 1939 and entered the U.S. Army three years later. He arrived at Omaha Beach two weeks after D-Day and served in the armored tank division until the end of the European Campaign of WWII. He was scheduled to go to Japan when the Japanese surrendered.
Frank and his brother, Don, opened a successful produce business at 63rd & Troost, which eventually expanded into three Don’s Market and Liquor stores. Frank also provided for his growing family by investing in commercial real estate.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Sebastiana Ferro, brother Dominic and sister-in-law Angelina Ferro, and brother Steve Ferro. He leaves his wife Mary, eight children: Beth (Ferro) and Ron Shouse, Cathy (Ferro) and Jim Adler, Jude Christine Mahoney, Anthony Ferro, Laura (Ferro) and Mario Brancato, Tom and Jodi Ferro, Denise Ferro, and David and Lisa Ferro; 25 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and counting.
Frank was passionate about spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed hunting with his bird-dogs, fishing, dancing, growing “cacuzzi” squash, horseback riding and traveling. He was proud of his 60 plus years as a member of the Campo-Manfre-Barbieri American Legion Post #151.
Rosary at 3:30 p.m., visitation from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 2nd, at Church of the Nativity, 3800 W. 119th Street, Leawood, KS. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, June 3rd, 10:00 a.m., at Church of the Nativity. Burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Frank’s memory to Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO 64145.
