Frank was born March 18, 1934, in Kansas City, MO, to Francis Anthony Schorgl and Marie Dehner Schorgl. He attended ¬¬¬Saint Francis Xavier Catholic grade school, graduated from Rockhurst High School in 1952 and Rockhurst College in 1956. He married Mary Virginia Hodes in 1957. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Theresa Schorgl Powell, and daughters Virginia Anne (Ginny) Schorgl and Mary Michelle (Shelly) Schorgl Becker. Frank is survived by his wife of 58 years, his sister Mary Margaret Wilson, his brother Charles L. Schorgl, and four loving children: Helen (Holly) Schorgl Kombrink, Francis (Dutch) and his wife Kelly Jo Schorgl, Daniel and his wife Julie Schorgl, John and his wife Allison Schorgl, along with 13 grandchildren.
At a young age, Frank excelled in athletics. He spent many hours working in his father’s grocery store where he developed a strong work ethic and love of the business. Frank was an Army veteran of the Korean War, stationed in France and returned home in 1958. Soon after, he joined his father at Pay-Less Grocery Store and expanded the business to multiple locations in the Kansas City area. He was a member of the Associated Wholesale Grocers Board of Directors for many years. He was also a member of numerous civic boards and community organizations. Along with his family, the grocery business was his passion where he was the first to arrive and the last to leave.
He was the ultimate host, often entertaining at his home on Washington Street and the Lake of the Ozarks where he built a home in 1970. Frank was always up for a game of cards with his family and friends. He traveled worldwide with his family to destinations such as Europe, Grand Cayman, Mexico and Canada, as well as several ski vacations to Snowmass, Co. Frank was a founding member of St. Thomas More Parish and coached many of his children’s sports teams. Our Dad lived everyday to the fullest and never missed an opportunity to make a lasting memory. Don’t worry Dad; we won’t do anything you wouldn’t do.
The family wishes to thank all of the dedicated caregivers especially Hospice KC and Christie Burns who always treated him with such kindness and respect. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Thomas More Parish, The Alzheimer’s Association and Rockhurst high school.
