Evelyn was 102 years old when she passed peacefully surrounded by family on Thanksgiving Day, November 28th, 2019. Evelyn was born August 6, 1917. She was the only child of Ivy and Orlando Twiehaus who proceeded her in death. Evelyn was also preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Gladden Thomas. Gladden and Evelyn were married on June 24, 1938. Their marriage produced two children, Larry Thomas and Connie (Thomas) Cockrell.
Evelyn lived her entire life and raised her children in her childhood house, which was built by her father, Orlando in Kansas City, MO. She enjoyed family vacations to multiple Missouri lakes, Colorado and Marco Island, FL. Evelyn retired as a dedicated employee of Sears & Roebuck Department Store after 25 years of service. After her retirement, she continued get-togethers with her work friends for many years. Evelyn enjoyed laughter, with an engaging sense-of-humor which was well known by her many friends and family. She kept her faith as a lifelong member of St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, in Independence, MO. She was a cheerful volunteer at the church by baking, cooking and participating in the weekly quilting circle, all activities she truly enjoyed.
Evelyn celebrated life by enriching the lives of all she touched. Her home and hospitality were always open to friends and family. Evelyn gave much love by cooking for her family during holidays and special gatherings. Evelyn truly cherished having friends and family in her home. She was blessed in her long life with a growing family of two children, five grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and a great-great grandchild.
Evelyn blessed us all who knew her and loved her. She left this world kinder, happier and more wonderful because she was a member of it.
Evelyn, we love you and will miss you, forever.
